A KPIX-TV news crew was robbed in Oakland’s Lower Dimond neighborhood on Thursday, police said.
Officers who responded to 3250 Lakeshore Ave. at about 12:15 p.m. to investigate a report of a robbery were told by the KPIX news crew that a short time earlier they had been robbed and their camera had been taken while they were in the area of Fruitvale Avenue and Harold Street, according to police.
The news crew said a vehicle was driven up to them and a masked suspect who said he had a gun approached them demanding their camera and they complied, police said.
However, crew members said they didn’t see a weapon, according to police.
The suspect fled the scene with the camera but at about 2:15 p.m. Oakland police officers who collaborated with San Francisco police detained two suspects in San Francisco and recovered the news camera, police said.
In February, two men and a woman were charged with multiple felonies in connection with the robbery of a KPIX news crew and the shooting of their security guard outside the Oakland Public Library’s 81st Avenue branch at 1021 81st Ave. in East Oakland.
