Las Vegas police find murdered Monterey doctor in trunk, suspect arrested in Stockton

Las Vegas police have arrested a 25-year-old woman in connection to the killing of a longtime Monterey doctor, police said.

Dr. Thomas Burchard worked at the Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula for 40 years, and most recently served patients at an outpatient behavioral health center, according to the hospital. On the morning of March 7, Las Vegas police responded to a report of an abandoned vehicle on state Highway 147 in the desert and found Burchard’s body in the trunk.

Their investigation led them to arrest Kelsey Turner in Stockton on March 21. Turner will be extradited to Clark County to face murder charges.

According to social media, Turner was a bartender and model. Police did not specify if the two knew each other or whether additional suspects were involved in the murder.

“We are absolutely devastated by the brutal murder of our loved one, Dr. Thomas Burchard,” Judy Earp, who was in a relationship with Burchard, wrote on his Facebook page. “We ask at this time that our privacy is respected as we grieve and try to process this heinous event.”

People who knew Burchard described him as a humble and generous “magic” healer who helped hundreds of people during his time at the Monterey hospital.
