El Cerrito prepares for fire season with prescribed burn

Firefighters are conducting a prescribed burn in El Cerrito Monday, according to city officials.

The fire was scheduled to start around 10 a.m. and conclude by 3 p.m. in the Hillside Natural Area, on the trail above the El Cerrito Recycling and Environmental Resource Center on Schmidt Lane. Prescribed burns are an intentional brush fire used to reduce available fuel before wildfire season is in full swing.

City officials are encouraging anyone with questions to call the fire department directly at (510) 215-4450.
