El Sobrante man dies in hospital after being struck by car

A 46-year-old El Sobrante man died after he was hit by a car in West Oakland on Monday morning, police said.

The pedestrian, identified by the Alameda County coroner’s bureau on Tuesday as Jermaine Butler Sr., was in the southbound lanes of traffic in the 900 block of Market Street at 10:23 a.m. Monday when he was struck by a 2008 Dodge Magnum that was traveling south, according to police. Butler was transported to Highland Hospital in Oakland but died there later, police said.

The Dodge driver, a 41-year-old Oakland man, stayed at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation, according to police. Investigators do not know at this time if alcohol or drugs were factors in the collision.
Oakland police said the case is still under investigation and anyone with information about it is asked to call their traffic investigation unit at (510) 777-8570.
