Ernesto Martinez, 27, of Fairfield, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, being armed during the commission of a felony, being a felon in possession of firearms, being a felon in possession of ammunition, violation of probation and violation of Post Release Community Supervision, according to the Fairfield Police Department.
Officers responded the morning of Jan. 16 to a shooting in the 1600 block of Clay Street and located a victim suffering from serious injuries due to a gunshot wound.
The victim was transported to the hospital and is still recovering from the injury, police said.
Investigators learned an altercation had occurred between the victim and Martinez and ended in the shooting.
Police obtained an arrest warrant for Martinez, and he was located Thursday and taken into custody.
During his arrest, he was in possession of a loaded semi-automatic handgun that matched evidence obtained from the shooting investigation, police said.
During a subsequent search of his residence, investigators located another semi-automatic handgun and ammunition, police said.
