Card skimmers found on Santa Cruz bank ATMs

Santa Cruz police are searching for a man suspected of installing card skimmers at banks in late December, police reported Thursday.

An unnamed bank reported several of its customers were unable fit their cards into ATM slots on Dec. 28, leading an ATM technician to discover skimming devices, police said.

Card skimmers are attached on the inside or outside of ATMs or gas pump card readers and can be used to steal information from debit or credit cards. Individuals can then use the information to create new cards or purchase items.

The bank reviewed transactions and determined a possible suspect from surveillance footage. Police seized the card skimmers as evidence.

Anyone who has information about the suspect or the card skimmers is asked to call Officer Brent Northrup at (831) 420-5838.
