Pickup truck plunges off Highway 1 near Bodega Bay

Investigators are working to determine what caused a pickup truck to veer off State Highway 1 and plunge down a cliff near Bodega Bay early Monday morning.

The 2008 GMC truck was found about 12:39 a.m., about 90 feet down from the roadway, engulfed in flames, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Authorities said the only person in the car died and identification has not yet been made.

Officers will investigate whether the driver was impaired, or if medical or mechanical issues led to the crash, the CHP said.
