Laurel Heights house fire kills one, injures two more

One person died and two people were injured, including a San Francisco firefighter, in an early morning blaze in the Laurel Heights neighborhood, fire officials said.

Crews responded to the two-alarm fire shortly before 1 a.m., at a three-story home in the 3800 block of Clay Street.

An elderly man died in the blaze and an elderly woman was rescued and taken to a hospital in critical condition, San Francisco Fire Department Lt. Jonathan Baxter said. The names of the victims have not been released.

A firefighter, injured while trying to enter the burning home, suffered burns and was treated and released from a hospital, Baxter said.

The fire started on the home’s second floor, and spread to the third floor. What sparked the fire is under investigation.
