Prosecutors in Napa, Sonoma and Solano counties have filed a complaint against the owner of some area auto repair franchises for allegedly performing unnecessary, unwarranted, negligently performed and unapproved repairs.
The defendants in the complaint are CRC Luxury Motors LLC, which owns Midas/SpeeDee stores in Napa, Petaluma and Vacaville, and Curtis Correll, who controls the daily operations of the Midas store at 1797 Soscol Ave. in Napa.
The defendants allegedly committed violations of the Automotive Repair Act, a hazardous waste control act and false advertising and unfair competition laws.
The alleged violations are based on investigations by California Bureau of Automotive Repair and prosecutors into consumer complaints against the stores.
Separately, Napa County District Attorney Allison Haley announced a settlement with Midas International Corporation, the franchiser of Midas stores. Prosecutors alleged Midas International was aware of, facilitated and benefited from CRC Luxury Motors and Correll’s apparent violations.
Under the settlement, Midas International Corporation will pay $150,000 in restitution to customers and $50,000 in civil penalties.
Haley’s office said Midas International Corporation cooperated with her office throughout the settlement process.
Customers of the Napa, Petaluma, and Vacaville Midas stores who believe they are victims of the alleged unlawful practices may be eligible for restitution if they file a complaint with the state Bureau of Automotive Repair and/or the district attorney’s offices in one of the three counties.
Customers must have adequate documentation to support their claim.
