Deputies shut down illegal Martinez video poker ‘casino’

Sheriff’s deputies have arrested a man who they say was running an illegal gambling operation in Martinez, according to the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office.

Someone tipped off authorities to an illegal “casino” in the 5000 block of Pacheco Boulevard, according to sheriff’s officials.

Deputies with the Special Investigation Unit began investigating and they executed a search warrant on the property Thursday night.

Inside the establishment, deputies found 37 computer terminals offering video poker and other games of chance,” sheriff’s officials said.

Authorities arrested Vinson Anies, 48, of San Mateo County, and booked him into the Martinez Detention Facility on suspicion of illegal gaming.

Deputies seized the computers and some cash.
