The Napa County Sheriff’s Office and the Napa Valley Unified School District confirmed Thursday that a Vintage High School graduate was among the 12 people who were fatally shot at a country music bar in Thousand Oaks Wednesday night.
District Superintendent Rosanna Mucetti said in a statement:
“We are heartbroken today by the news that one of our own, 2018 Vintage High School graduate Alaina Housley, was killed in a mass shooting in Southern California.”
Housley was a freshman at Pepperdine University, according to Mucetti.
Mucetti said:
“Her parents Hannah and Arik and brother Alex are well loved and connected to many of us.”
Counselors, chaplains and other supporters have been at Vintage High School, Silverado Middle School and Vichy and Yountville elementary schools that Housley attended, according to Mucetti.
Mucetti said:
“There are no words that are sufficient at a time like this, but we remain a strong, caring community who will join together to enfold the Housleys and their friends with support.”
Ian David Long, 28, of Thousand Oaks, a former Marine, shot and killed 12 people, including a Ventura County sheriff’s deputy, at the Borderline Bar and Grill in Thousand Oaks before killing himself.
The Napa County Sheriff’s Office said Housley was a beautiful young woman full of life and ambition.
The sheriff’s office said on Facebook:
“She moved to Southern California to further her education so she could contribute to society, however her dreams were destroyed by a senseless act … Our condolences go out to the Housley family, the family of Ventura County sheriff’s Sgt. Ron Helus and the families of the other 10 victims who died during this horrible tragedy in Thousand Oaks.”
