An 89-year-old man suffered life-threatening injuries when a vehicle struck him Thursday morning in Watsonville, police said.

An 89-year-old man suffered life-threatening injuries when a vehicle struck him Thursday morning in Watsonville, police said.
The man was crossing Airport Boulevard near Safeway at about 6:45 a.m. and was not in a crosswalk when an eastbound vehicle hit him.
Police said the man was trying to get from one bus stop to another and a recently upgraded, well-lit crosswalk was about 100 feet away.
The victim was taken to a trauma center and the driver is cooperating with police. Drugs, alcohol, speed and a cellphone were not factors in the collision.
An update on the man’s condition was not available from police.
According to police, the Airport Boulevard crosswalk was recently moved so that drivers are able to see it better.
