Evening electricity conservation Flex Alert issued

High temperatures expected throughout California this week have prompted the state’s Independent System Operator Corporation to issue a Flex Alert to encourage electricity conservation Tuesday and Wednesday.

The alert is specifically for 5-9 p.m. on the two days since the late afternoon and evening hours are when air conditioners are generally at peak use, California ISO officials said.

Temperatures are expected to reach the mid to upper 90s in parts of the Bay Area Tuesday and Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service.

People can avoid possible power outages by turning off unnecessary lights, using major appliances before 5 p.m. or after 9 p.m., and setting air conditioners to 78 degrees or higher.
