Sleeping homeless man attacked on Market

A 50-year-old homeless man suffered life-threatening injuries in an attack in which his bicycle was stolen in the area of San Francisco’s Market Street on Sunday morning, according to police.

The robbery was reported around 6:20 a.m. in the area of Market and Second streets.

The victim was asleep on the sidewalk when someone approached and struck him on the left side of the head with a blunt object, causing a deep laceration, police said.

The suspect then stole the victim’s bike and fled. He remains at large and no description of him was immediately available.

The victim was taken to a hospital to be treated for his injuries.
