Bicyclist becomes 25th traffic death in San Jose in 2018

A bicyclist was struck and killed by a pickup truck in San Jose on Sunday night, according to police.

The collision was reported around 10 p.m. in the area of North Jackson and Alum Rock avenues and involved a 1990 Toyota pickup truck that struck the 59-year-old male bicyclist, who was crossing North Jackson outside of any crosswalk or intersection, police said.

The truck driver stopped at the scene and cooperated with investigators. The bicyclist was taken to a hospital and was pronounced dead shortly afterward. His name is not yet being released by the Santa Clara County medical examiner’s office.

Sunday’s case was San Jose’s 25th fatal collision on city streets in 2018, police said. Anyone with information about the case is asked to call Detective Troy Sirmons at (408) 277-4654.
