The County Fire centered in Yolo County was up to 32,500 acres as of 7:30 p.m. Sunday night, and the lead agency fighting the fire says it could be Friday before full containment is achieved.
As it stands, Cal Fire reports 2 percent containment Sunday night.
The County Fire started at 2:12 p.m. Sunday in the Guinda area of Yolo County about 15 miles north of Lake Berryessa. It has moved extremely fast, thanks to abundant tinder-dry fuel, high temperatures and warm winds.
No injuries were reported as of 7:30 p.m., nor any structures destroyed. But Cal Fire says 116 structures are threatened.
Evacuations of portions of Napa and Solano counties had been ordered earlier this afternoon. Residents of Napa County east of Berryessa Knoxville Road, north of Highway 128, south of Yolo County Road 23 to the Yolo County line were among those ordered to leave as residents of Solano County north of Quail Canyon Road, south of state Highway 128, east of the Blue Ridge Mountains and west of Pleasant Valley Road, according to Cal Fire.
Later Sunday afternoon, homes accessed by state Highway 128 between Monticello Dam and Pleasant Valley Road in Yolo County have been added to the list of mandatory evacuation areas.
Cal Fire Division Chief Chris Anthony said Sunday:
“This fire is moving very, very fast given the time of year.”
Anthony said it’s indicative of what firefighters expect to see in the coming months.
