Two Alameda waitresses were robbed by a group of four to six young suspects on Tuesday night just after they finished their shifts at a nearby restaurant, police said.
The two women were walking to their cars in the 700 block of Pacific Avenue at about 10:15 p.m. Tuesday when they were confronted by the suspects, who pulled up in two vehicles, according to police spokesman Lt. Wayland Gee.
One of the women, who is 59, was struck in the face by a hard object and was knocked to the ground and had her purse stolen, Gee said.
The other woman, 62, was pushed to the ground and also had her purse stolen, according to Gee.
The woman who was struck in the face suffered minor injuries but didn’t need to be treated and the other woman wasn’t injured, Gee said.
There was only a vague description of the suspects as being in their late teens or early 20s, according to Gee.
The robbery comes weeks after a violent attempted robbery in front of the Pho Anh Dao restaurant at 1919 Webster St., about two blocks away, at about 11 p.m. on April 6 that led to the death of 61-year-old Cindy Le of Alameda several days later.
No one has been arrested for that homicide.
Gee said there’s nothing to suggest that the two robberies are connected other than the fact that they both occurred in Alameda’s West End neighborhood.
