Vallejo motel fire displaces 20

Twenty people were displaced by a two-alarm fire at a Motel 7 in Vallejo on Monday afternoon, a fire department spokesman said.

The fire in a first-floor room of the motel at 211 Lincoln Road W. was reported around 3:20 p.m. Four other rooms were damaged by smoke or forced entry by firefighters, Vallejo firefighter/paramedic Aaron Klauber said.

An occupant of the burning room escaped safely but suffered a minor injury, and a motel employee who tried to put out the fire with a hose suffered smoke inhalation, Klauber said.

Firefighters confined the fire to the first-floor room and the motel managers and the American Red Cross assisted the displaced occupants with other housing, Klauber said.

Firefighters were at the scene for more than two hours and the cause of the fire is under investigation, Klauber said.
