Giants bump Tyler Beede to the bigs for Tuesday debut

The Giants announced Tuesday that right-handed top prospect Tyler Beede would be elevated to the big leagues to toe the rubber Tuesday night against the red-hot Arizona Diamondbacks.

Reliever Roberto Gómez (1-0, 11.25 ERA) is being sent down to make room for the 24-year-old, and Johnny Cueto (1-0, 0.69 ERA) will now start Wednesday’s matchup.

Beede was San Francisco’s first-round pick in 2014 and was ranked No. 4 among the Giants’ Top 30 Prospects for 2018. He had a 1-1 record in Spring Training this year with a 10.80 ERA in 8-1/3 innings, allowing 14 hits, 10 runs and five strikeouts. In one game Thursday for the San Jose Giants this season, Beede threw five innings, giving up just one hit and one run with three walks and four strikeouts.

Gómez has pitched in three games this season. He struggled in his first outing in Los Angeles on April 1, giving up five hits and four runs in just one inning, though he performed solidly in his next two outings. Monday night against Arizona he pitched two scoreless innings, giving up three hits and striking out two.
