A driver accused of plowing into a group of five men, killing one of them and hospitalizing the rest Wednesday in San Francisco’s Dogpatch neighborhood has been charged, prosecutors announced Thursday.
Mark Dennis, 33, is being charged with one count of murder, four counts of attempted murder, six counts of assault with a deadly weapon and four counts of assault causing great bodily injury.
He’s set to be arraigned sometime next week, prosecutors said.
The city’s medical examiner’s office today identified the man killed in the collision as 43-year-old Eliseo Lopez.
Lopez died at a hospital following the collision, which occurred around 10:25 a.m. Wednesday near the corner of Illinois and 24th streets, police said.
Before the collision, Dennis had allegedly gotten into a physical altercation with the five victims. He then drove onto the sidewalk and plowed into them before driving off, police said.
Officers, however, were able to quickly locate Dennis and his vehicle and took him into custody.
Dennis is being held in the county jail without bail, according to jail records.
Police said the four men who survived were 31, 38, 39 and 42 years old.
Brent Andrew, Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital spokesman, said this evening that one is in critical condition and one is in fair condition. Andrew said two were able to go home Wednesday night.
