Raiders add Brian Callahan as quarterback coach

The Oakland Raiders added another piece to Jon Gruden‘s coaching staff Monday, announcing Brian Callahan the team’s new quarterbacks coach according to a team press release.

Callahan, the son of former Raiders head coach Bill Callahan, served as the quarterbacks coach of the Detroit Lions for the past two seasons. Under Callahan’s tutelage, Matthew Stafford had two of the best seasons of his career, posting completion percentages of 65.3 and 65.7 and throwing for 8,733 passing yards and 53 passing touchdowns.

Stafford also recorded the two lowest interception rates of his career under Callahan. Derek Carr, on the other hand, posted his worst interception percentage in the NFL during the 2017 season.

Prior to coaching for the Lions, Callahan worked six years as, among other things, an offensive assistant for the Denver Broncos. In his last season in Denver, Callahan helped coach Peyton Manning to a Super Bowl win in his final season.
