Highway 121 remains closed after fatal landslide

State Highway 121 in rural Napa County east of Napa remains closed Wednesday because of a fatal vehicle crash caused by a landslide Tuesday evening, Caltrans officials said.

The highway is closed in an area between Wild Horse Valley Road and Vichy Avenue, according to the California Highway Patrol.

There is no immediate detour since the highway is located in a mountainous area between the city of Napa and Lake Berryessa, Caltrans spokesman Vince Jacala said.

The landslide that pushed a vehicle 100 feet down an embankment and into a tree was reported around 5 p.m. Tuesday. A tow truck from a Pope Valley garage was given approval to remove the vehicle around 9:25 a.m. Wednesday, according to the CHP.
