Google bus hits, kills motorcyclist

Mountain View police have confirmed that a male motorcyclist died in a collision involving a Google bus late Wednesday afternoon.

Officers responded to reports of a collision at the intersection of North Shoreline Boulevard and Plymouth Street at about 5:20 p.m. Wednesday.

When they arrived, the motorcyclist was unresponsive in the roadway and was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later. His name is not yet being released.

No one else was injured in the crash. Police said that the commuter bus that hit the motorcyclist was contracted with Google to transport employees to and from work.

A Google spokeswoman issued a statement that said:

“We are saddened to learn of this tragic incident. Our thoughts are with all those affected by this tragedy.”

Northbound traffic was diverted at Pear Avenue and southbound traffic was turned around at Space Park Way. The roadway reopened shortly before 1 a.m. today, according to police.

The cause of the collision is under investigation.
