Fountaingrove water polluted by North Bay fires

The City of Santa Rosa Water Department on Friday issued notices advising some customers in the Fountaingrove neighborhood to stop drinking tap water due to damage caused to the water system from the recent North Bay fires.

Thirteen homes in Fountaingrove received the advisory notice after slightly elevated levels of contaminants were detected in two isolated areas, city officials said.

The impacted residents in those areas are being advised not to use the tap water for drinking and cooking until further notice.

The department is recommending using bottled water for all drinking, brushing teeth, washing dishes, making ice and for food preparation until further notice.

Also, residents should not try and treat the water. Boiling or disinfecting the water will not make it safe to drink due to the nature of the water contamination The department increased water sampling in the aftermath of the fires.

Officials said the sampling identified the contamination and confirmed it is isolated to two specific areas of Fountaingrove only.

The department is flushing clean water through the system to address the contamination.
