Teen expected to recover after stabbing attack

The 13-year-old boy who was stabbed in what investigators are calling an unprovoked attack in Millbrae Friday is expected to recover from his wounds, according to a San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office spokesman.

The boy was attacked at about 2:30 p.m. while he was standing in the front courtyard of the Millbrae Public Library, according to Detective Salvador Zuno.

The suspect, a 44-year-old man, allegedly walked up to the boy and began stabbing him with a four-inch folding knife, Zuno said.

The boy escaped and fled into the library and deputies, who arrived seconds after the attack, were able to arrest the man and provide first aid to the boy.

The boy suffered wounds to his arms and was taken to the hospital, where he is recovering today, Zuno said.

The suspect, whose name was not released, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon and willful injury to a child, Zuno said.

The man is expected to be arraigned in San Mateo County Superior Court on Monday.
