Man barricades himself in home during eviction

Police arrested a man who was being evicted from his home in San Francisco’s Bayview District Wednesday after he allegedly refused to leave and barricaded himself inside.

Police said they were called to an apartment complex in the first block of Garlington Court at 10:48 a.m. by a private security guard who reported that a resident set to be evicted from his home had refused to leave.

The security guard told police the man had thrown objects out of his apartment and made threats to burn down the building.

Police officers tried to make contact with the suspect, but he allegedly refused to come outside and barricaded himself inside the apartment.

Police surrounded the unit, evacuated other nearby residents and called in members of the department’s Crisis Intervention Team and Crisis/Hostage Negotiation Team.

Negotiators were eventually able to make contact with the man and persuade him to leave his home. He was placed under arrest without further incident.

The man, whose name was not immediately released, was medically evaluated and is expected to be booked in to jail on an unrelated felony assault charge, police said.
