Two people were killed in a crash between a van and an SUV in Santa Cruz County Thursday morning, California Highway Patrol officers said.
The crash was reported at 7:41 a.m. on northbound state Highway 1 just south of Swanton Road.
Two of the four people in the vehicles were trapped, CHP officers said.
A Sig-alert was issued at 8:35 a.m. when Highway 1 was closed in both directions, according to Caltrans officials. One lane of the highway has since reopened, but Swanton Road is also closed.
