AC Transit driver seriously hurt in bus crash

An Alameda-Contra Costa Transit District bus driver was seriously injured when his bus slammed into another vehicle and then a tree after in downtown Oakland on Monday night, AC Transit officials said.

The crash happened at about 10 p.m. near the intersection of 10th and Oak streets, near the Oakland Museum of California.

The Line 88 bus was heading toward Lake Merritt on Oak Street when another vehicle made a left turn onto 10th Street in the path of the bus, according to AC Transit officials.

The bus hit the other vehicle and then slammed into a tree, leaving it with substantial damage. The driver, who has worked for AC Transit for 16 years, suffered a serious leg laceration and was taken to a hospital.

The bus wasn’t in service at the time of the crash and no passengers were on board. The driver and a passenger in the other vehicle declined medical treatment, AC Transit officials said.

Oakland police are investigating the crash.
