Police throughout the Bay Area have stepped up DUI enforcement for the holiday season, implementing checkpoints in locations prone to DUI collisions and arrests.
For six hours starting at 6 p.m. Friday, Fairfield police checked 841 drivers in the 2000 block of North Texas Street.
One driver was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs, and two were arrested on suspicion of driving drunk.
Seven drivers were cited or arrested on suspicion of driving without a license, and two were arrested on outstanding warrants, police said.
During the same time, Novato police screened 386 drivers on northbound South Novato Boulevard at Sunset Parkway.
Police performed 10 field sobriety tests and arrested one driver on suspicion of driving under the influence.
Ebony Barksdale, a 36-year-old Antioch resident, was arrested on suspicion of driving on a suspended license, and for a felony warrant out of Alameda County, police said.
A San Bruno checkpoint is planned for 9 p.m. tonight. Milpitas police also conducted a DUI checkpoint on Saturday.
Milpitas police Chief Steve Pangelinan said in a statement:
“We don’t want a bad choice by any driver under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol to possibly end in a tragedy for others, so it will be zero tolerance for any DUI driver.”
