Rash of golf cart thefts hits Cal campus

University of California at Berkeley police said Monday they are investigating a recent rash of golf cart thefts on campus.

The thefts have occurred near Haas Pavilion and Moffitt Library and are considered felony motor vehicle thefts, according to police.

People operating the golf carts are advised to always secure the vehicle and remove the keys from the ignition, and to install a keypad lock if possible to disable the cart without a proper code.

Police also advise people to use a steering wheel lock, pedal lock or chain to further secure the cart.

Anyone with information about the thefts is encouraged to call the UC police criminal investigation bureau at (510) 642-0472 during regular business hours and (510) 642-6760 after hours.
