Fantasy football Week 6: No more surprises

After five weeks of football, the NFL has revealed the majority of its surprises.

Breakout performers like Sammie Coates have been uncovered. Comeback players like DeMarco Murray have shown full-well their returned talents. And diminishing talents like that of Jay Cutler have been exposed.

This makes picking your weekly fantasy team a bit more difficult, as your competitors will have a grasp on the value selections. There is still a few ways to make the most of your salary in Week 6, however. Here are your locks and fliers for the week.

Quarterback

Marcus Mariota ($7,600) was the highest-scoring fantasy quarterback a week ago, dropping 30 points on the Dolphins defense. The Miami defense allows the ninth-most fantasy points (18) per week to the quarterback position. The Cleveland Browns, who Mariota and the Tennessee Titans face this week, allow 19.8 points per game (fifth-most). He is a safe bet at a discounted rate.

Ben Roethlisberger ($8,700) those same Dolphins that were torched by Mariota. “Big Ben” is not only a more explosive fantasy quarterback, his receiving corps is as close to unstoppable as exists in the league. Expect the Miami defense to cough up another 30-point outburst.

Running Back

Current San Francisco 49ers, and former Philadelphia Eagles, Head Coach Chip Kelly had a tumultuous parting of ways with former ball carrier LeSean McCoy ($8,200). The Buffalo Bills running back brings the league’s sixth-most fantasy points by a running back (74) into a showdown with his former coach. He is a strong play for a huge day.

The New Orleans Saints feature the league’s second-most explosive passing offense (304 yards per game). Catching four passes per game out of the backfield, Mark Ingram ($6,700) is not only the Saints’ top runner he plays a key role in that high-flying passing game. Expect him to score at least one touch down against the Carolina Panthers.

Wide Receiver

If you’re going to take his quarterback, you should definitely take Pittsburgh Steelers wide out Antonio Brown ($9,700). The game’s best pass catcher is primed to torch its sixth-worst defense against the position.

Dez Bryant appears to be ready for a return to the field for the Dallas Cowboys this week, but Cole Beasley ($5,900) is the guy worth consideration. He’s not a flashy fantasy play, but he’s almost certain to score 10-plus points per game, which he has done in all but one game this season.

Tight end

As Brown is to Roethlisberger, so is Delanie Walker ($6,700) to Mariota. In two of Mariota’s three double-digit performances this year Walker scored more than 15 (Weeks 2 and 5). The second-year signal caller’s favorite target will get more than the seven targets he averages per game, hauling more than his average of four catches including a touchdown.

Kicker

Ryan Succop ($4,500) has yet to post an outing of more than nine points. With his Titans, who have struggled to break the goal line, playing host to the Browns, who surrender yards (402.6 per game) and points (29.6) by the bunches, Succop will get opportunities. He has been successful with those chances, going 10-for-13 on field goals this season. This is the week he breaks the 10-point threshold.

Defense/Special Teams

The Eagle defense ($4,500) averages 11.75 fantasy points per game (No. 2). The Washington offense they are set to face has turned the ball over seven times while scoring just 23 points per game. In a divisional and rivalry game both teams will come out emotionally, which will favor the aggressive Eagle defense.
