Balboa Park BART faces weekend closures

San Francisco’s Balboa Park BART station and the tracks between Glen Park and Daly City will be closed for seven weekends starting later this month to allow for repairs and improvement, according to BART.

Work crews will be making repairs to the tracks and adding sound dampening equipment to the curved trackway to reduce noise, making improvements to the Balboa Park station and trimming trees along the tracks during the closures, BART officials said.

SamTrans and the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency will provide free shuttle service during the closures, including express buses between Daly City and Glen Park and local shuttles with stops at all three affected stations.

In addition, passengers traveling within San Francisco can take regular paid service on the J-Church, 14- and 14R-Mission, M-Ocean View, 54-Felton and 49-Mission/Van Ness lines, which provide service to BART stations including Glen Park and 24th Street.

For those traveling to and from the East Bay, the Richmond line service will provide limited service on Saturdays, stopping at Montgomery Station on Saturday, and be out of service on Sundays. The Pittsburg/Bay Point line will end at Glen Park Station, while Dublin line trains will stop at 24th Street.

Trains will be available from Daly City to Millbrae and to and from San Francisco International Airport.

Those traveling from the Peninsula, particularly for Giants games, can also take Caltrain.

Passengers should expect 20 to 40 minute delays on trips through the affected area, while those traveling to Millbrae and SFO should add an hour to their trip, according to BART officials.

The weekend closures are currently scheduled for the following dates: July 30 and 31; Aug. 13 and 14; Aug. 20 and 21; Sept. 3, 4 and 5; Sept. 17 and 18; Oct. 1 and 2, and Oct. 15 and 16. Those dates could be subject to change, according to BART.
