A 19-year-old man was sent to the hospital Thursday afternoon after a group allegedly attacked him with a baseball bat following a dispute in San Francisco’s South of Market neighborhood.
Around 1 p.m., a man was talking with a group of about seven people near Sixth and Market streets, according to police.
A verbal altercation then ensued between the man and the group.
One of the suspects then took a metal baseball bat and struck the victim in the head, knocking him to the ground, police said.
The suspect continued striking the victim multiple times in the face and body with the bat. The other suspects allegedly were kicking the victim, according to police.
When the victim lost consciousness, the suspects then stole the man’s backpack and his cash, before fleeing in an unknown direction.
The victim suffered bruising and lacerations to his face and body.
He was taken to a hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening, police said.
The suspect who struck the victim with the baseball bat was described as a man in his 30s. Four other suspects were described as men between 20 and 30 years old. Additionally, two other suspects were described as women, one about 60 years old and another between 20 and 30 years old, according to police.
