Rookie forward Kevon Looney might finally see some time in the NBA.
After offseason hip surgery, Looney ran with the Santa Cruz Warriors for a five game stint that ended Sunday, when the Warriors recalled him to their active squad.
He played small minutes during his rehab assignment, only averaging 18.2 minutes per game, but was a rebounding monster. Looney averaged 10 boards, with eight points and one assist versus developmental league competition, an awesome sign for the Warriors hopes of a deeper bench.
Looney’s hip was expected to need work, and was the primary reason that he fell to the Warriors at pick 30 in the draft, despite enormous potential.
The 6-foot-9 UCLA freshman was passed on by all teams but Golden State, and could be playing with a pretty big chip on his shoulder right out of the starting gate.
