A school bus driver for Napa Valley Unified School District was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and child endangerment Friday afternoon when her bus transporting 28 students got stuck on a rural road near Napa.
The driver, Jaquida Parker, 24, of Vallejo, tried to make a three-point turn on Old Sonoma Road in unincorporated Napa County after she missed a turn or stop around 3:15 p.m., but the bus got stuck and could not move, CHP Officer Marc Renspurger said.
The 2013 Thomas school bus blocked one lane of Old Sonoma Road south of Buhman Avenue, Renspurger said.
CHP Officer Sean Harrington noticed signs of intoxication when he spoke to Parker, and she was unable to perform field sobriety tests, Renspurger said.
Parker was arrested on suspicion of DUI and DUI with a blood-alcohol level above 0.08 percent, Renspurger said.
The students on the bus were heading from Harvest Middle School/River School on Old Sonoma Road to Browns Valley Elementary School on Buhman Avenue, Napa Valley Unified School District spokeswoman Elizabeth Emmett said.
Parker has been working as a bus driver for the school district since the beginning of the school year, Emmett said.
