After a nose break that required surgery, Warriors center Andrew Bogut will be available for the season opener.
The break happened Thursday October 15 against the Rockets, and closed Bogut’s right nasal passage, mandating surgery.
It’s not a foreign injury to Bogut, his fourth of his career, and the big guy was so unnerved by the process he was joking with reporters Saturday about the advances in protective masks:
“Back when I did it, you had to put a sock on your head, put a bunch of plaster and lathe. Now I walk into a clinic, they scan my face for one second and say ‘alright, see you later.’ The mask showed up in three days.”
Bogut had also consulted with a doctor about having a more thorough procedure done, telling reporters that his septum is like an ‘S,’ but the procedure would have him sidelined for as many as four weeks.
He plans to have some sort of reconstruction, but for now, is choosing to hold off, possibly until he’s done playing professional basketball.
Considering the team will be without Steve Kerr for an undetermined amount of time, it’s good to have Bogut there to play.
Especially since the Warriors are twice the team with the Aussie big than without, evidenced by their 2012-2013 turnaround as well as their overall record with and without him.
After the Warriors started 20-2 last year, they lost Bogut for a short time and immediately went 2-3, including a loss at the Lakers.
They did return to their winning ways as a little tinkering, but there’s no denying the edge Bogut provides in the paint, even if it doesn’t show up in points scored.
