Parks deal approved for SF’s southeast side

New parks that would create one of the longest continuous open spaces along the Bay in San Francisco are a step closer to being built, city parks officials said.

The San Francisco Recreation and Park Commission Thursday approved a deal to develop land along the India Basin Shoreline on the city’s southeast side, parks officials said.

The finished open space would be 1.5 miles long and include projects at 900 Innes Ave., India Basin Shoreline Park and 700 Innes Ave, according to parks officials.

The commission approved the deal between the San Francisco Recreation and Parks Department, The Trust for Public Land, the San Francisco Parks Alliance and India Basin Investment, LLC, parks officials said.

Recreation and Parks Department General Manager Phil Ginsburg said in a statement that the partners in the deal are aiming to create a legacy park:

“(The partnership is) a key step in our effort to build the great parks of tomorrow to address population growth in high-needs areas and emerging neighborhoods.”
