Man shot after confronting alleged burglars

A 26-year-old man was shot in the arm on Monday afternoon in San Francisco’s Bayview District after confronting two suspects who allegedly burglarized his vehicle, police said.

Police said the shooting, which officers responded to at 2:17 p.m.

Monday in the 700 block of Phelps Street, occurred sometime after the victim had his car burglarized.

The victim, an employee of a nearby business, recognized the burglary suspects in surveillance footage he reviewed. He then drove around looking for them himself while a co-worker reported the incident.

When the victim found the two suspects walking down Phelps Street, police said he stepped out of his vehicle and got into an altercation with the suspects, who fired a gun and wounded him.

The victim was treated for injuries not considered life-threatening at San Francisco General Hospital.

Police said the suspects, two men around 19 years old, fled on a bus after the shooting.

No arrests have been made in the case, which remains under investigation, according to police.
