Driver cited in Richmond pedestrian death

A 62-year-old truck driver who fatally struck a woman in a crosswalk in San Francisco’s Richmond District on Monday afternoon has been cited for misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter and for failing to yield to a pedestrian, a police spokesman said.

The pedestrian, identified by the medical examiner’s office as 61-year-old San Francisco resident Rose Kelly, was struck in a crosswalk at 1:21 p.m. Monday at 33rd Avenue and Cabrillo Street, San Francisco police spokesman Officer Albie Esparaza said.

Kelly was in the crosswalk with the right of way when the truck struck her, Esparza said.

The driver, whose name has not yet been released, was driving a GMC truck north on 33rd Avenue when he hit Kelly, who was walking east in the crosswalk on Cabrillo Street, according to police.

Kelly was taken to San Francisco General Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Esparza said the collision remains under investigation.
