Main Library expands deaf service hours

Library officials have expanded the operating hours starting this weekend at a center in the main branch of the San Francisco Public Library that serves deaf patrons, library officials said.

The library’s deaf services center will now be open the same hours as the main library or 60 hours a week. That’s an increase of 21 hours, library officials said.

City librarian Luis Herrera said the extra hours will help the library better serve its community:

“Allowing our patrons who are deaf or hard of hearing to have on par access with all other library users is vital in keeping with our library mission.”

The center is located on the first floor of the main library and was closed Sundays and Mondays, according to library officials.
