Young Quakes Alashe, Thompson get national call up

San Jose Earthquakes youngsters Tommy Thompson and Fatai Alashe have been called to U.S. National Team duty, the club announced today.

Alashe, 21, will join the U.S. Under-23 team for training camp in Bosnia & Herzegovina, to begin qualifying preparation for the 2016 Olympics in Rio De Janeiro.

The second-year Thompson, 19, will once again join Tab Ramos and the U.S. Under-20 team for the first foreign camp of the year in England.

The U-23’s will train March 23 to 26 before facing Bosnia’s U-23 team on Friday, March 27 in Tuzla, followed by a trip to Denmark to face their national team on Tuesday, March 31.

Thompson will join 19 others for the first U-20 camp of the season from March 23 to 30, that will include a closed door match against Tottenham Hotspurs’ Under-21 team, followed by a matchup with England’s U-21 national team. The camp is in preparation for the 2015 FIFA Under-20 World Cup which takes place this summer in New Zealand.

With only one professional start under his belt, Alashe is a bit of a surprise selection after he impressed last week in a 3-2 victory at Seattle, playing with 10 men for the final half-hour.
