A 26-year-old man bicycling in San Francisco’s Western Addition neighborhood on Monday afternoon was seriously injured when he slammed into a stopped vehicle, police said.
According to police, the bicyclist was heading south down the hill on Gough Street near the intersection with McAllister Street shortly before 1:40 p.m.
The driver of a vehicle, also traveling south on Gough Street, stopped and switched on her turn signal to pull into a parking space, police said.
The bicyclist crashed into the back of the driver’s vehicle, suffering life-threatening injuries, according to police.
He was transported to San Francisco General Hospital with head trauma, internal bleeding, a punctured lung and fractured ribs, police said.
Police said the driver remained at the scene.
An update on the man’s injuries was not immediately available Tuesday morning.
