A boy who died when one of two speeding cars crashed into a light pole in San Jose early Saturday was 15-year-old Vladimir Cavadas Vargas, according to the Santa Clara County medical examiner’s office.
The two cars were speeding west on Hillsdale Avenue at about 3:15 a.m. Saturday, San Jose police said. One of the drivers lost control when the vehicles approached Meridian Avenue, turned sideways and struck the light pole, police said.
Vargas, of San Jose, was one of three people ejected from the car. He was pronounced dead at the scene. A female juvenile and another male juvenile who were ejected were both hospitalized with serious injuries, police said.
The driver of the car that crashed fled the scene and the driver of the other car drove away. Police who arrived at the scene were unable to locate either of them and they remain at large.
A preliminary investigation determined that alcohol was a factor in the crash, police said.
