Curry fastest ever to 1,000 three-pointers

ORACLE ARENA — Stephen Curry, above all else, is known for knocking down threes. He added to his sharp-shooting infamy Wednesday night.

Curry entered the night having hit a total of 999 threes in just over five years. At the 6:22 mark of the first quarter against the Indiana Pacers, Curry hit a pull-up trey in transition to become the youngest and fastest in NBA history to hit 1,000 career three-pointers.

Warriors roll past Pacers Klay Thompson’s 40 points set pace.

During the following timeout Curry along with his record was shown on the jumbo screen at Oracle and the crowd erupted into a standing ovation that spilled into MVP chants for the Warriors franchise player.

Warriors head coach Steve Kerr said he couldn’t believe how quickly Curry hit the 1,000 mark and praised Curry for his success and his dedication to improving:

“I played 15 years and I never got to 1,000. Incredible. When all is said and done, he might break Reggie Miller’s record, he’s that good and he’s that committed.”

Curry first made shooting history during the 2012-13 season when he set the NBA record for most three-pointers made in a single season with 272.

Playing in his 369th game, Curry hit the 1,000-mark milestone in 88 fewer game than the previous quickest, Dennis Scott (457 games).  Curry is the 74th player ever to hit 1,000 threes, and just the 13th to do it with one franchise.

Curry finished the night with a 21-point, 15-assist double-double on 8-of-17 shooting including 4-of-8 from downtown. After the game he said it was a special night that was made possible by years of great screens and great passes:

“Any time you can reach milestones like that with some legends that have played in the game, obviously with Ray Allen’s record a couple years ago and now a guy that I knew very well growing up, Dennis Scott, that’s special. You enjoy the moment and hopefully hit 1,000 more.”
