Two men have been indicted in connection with allegedly transporting hundreds of bottles stolen from The French Laundry in Yountville and other locations in 2013 and 2014.
Thieves broke into Napa Valley’s famous French Laundry restaurant over Christmas and stole 40 to 50 bottles of high-end wine, sheriff’s officials said Tuesday.
[mappress mapid=”47″ align=”right” margin=”12″]The burglary at the restaurant at 6640 Washington St. in Yountville was reported Friday morning when staff discovered someone had forced their way into the wine cellar some time after 2 p.m. on Christmas Day.
The stolen wine was valued in excess of $50,000, sheriff’s officials said. Investigators believe the thieves deliberately targeted high-value wines for potential resale to restaurants and private individuals, according to Napa County sheriff’s Capt. Doug Pike:
“It’s the Napa Valley, so we’re no strangers to thefts of wine but I would have to say in recent memory this is fairly significant.”
Sheriff’s officials have released a list of the wines stolen in the hopes that anyone approached by someone offering to sell those particular wines will alert investigators. The wines taken include a number of French vintages and some from Screaming Eagle, a Napa County winery.
