It looks like the Giants can keep El Mechon on the AT&T Park playlist for two more years.
The deal is pending a physical and likely to take place Thursday. Romo, 31, has spent all seven seasons in the majors with the Giants. He’s gone 31-21 with a 2.51 ERA and 78 saves in that span.
He was the This Year in Baseball Setup Man of the Year in 2012 and an All-Star in 2013.
Bochy took the closer’s role away from Romo in late June after a series of shaky outings. He finished the 2014 season 6-4 with 23 saves. He tied his career high for blown saves in a season (5) and recorded the second highest ERA of his career (3.72).
Romo got comfy in the setup role and contributed heavily to the Giants postseason success. He appeared in nine games and went 1-1 with four holds while allowing only one run.
With Romo back in the fold, Peavy would be the next likely target for San Francisco.
