A 45-year-old woman was killed in a solo car crash in the Hayward hills in a solo vehicle crash at Hayward Boulevard and Contreras Place shortly after 4 p.m., Hayward police Sgt. Jason Corsolini said.
The car had been traveling uphill on Hayward Boulevard where the woman lost control of the vehicle, Corsolini said. The car spun out and crashed into a utility pole at Contreras Place, the sergeant said.
Hayward firefighters responded to the scene where tried to save the woman, but she was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Corsolini. A preliminary investigation indicated that speed and wet roadways were factors in the crash, he said.
A portion of state Highway 92 in Half Moon Bay that had been closed due to flooding reopened late Tuesday, according to the California Highway Patrol. Eastbound and westbound lanes of Highway 92 by Main Street had been due to about 2.5 feet of water in the lanes, CHP officials said.
Both directions of state Highway 121 near the Sonoma Raceway in Sonoma County have been reopened following flooding. A report of flooding on Highway 121 just east of Sears Point Highway came in around 6:30 p.m.. The lanes reopened around 8:15 p.m., when the water cleared, according to the CHP.
