USPS truck catches fire on I-238

All lanes have reopened on Interstate Highway 238 after a fire involving a United States Postal Service truck caught on fire Sunday morning and blocked two lanes, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Officer Kevin Bartlett said CHP responded to a report of a big-rig that caught on fire at 6:32 a.m. near the junction with Mission Boulevard.

Bartlett said there were no injuries and two lanes were initially blocked but both lanes were clear as of 5 p.m., Bartlett said.

Preliminary reports indicate the trailer of the big-rig caught on fire but the cause of the fire is still unknown, Bartlett said.

Crews were working for several hours to remove the contents of the trailer, which Bartlett said may include letters and other mail.

USPS representatives were not immediately available for comment.
