The pedestrian, identified as a man, was struck around 2:30 a.m. near the intersection of Folsom and Second streets, police said.
The man suffered head trauma and a broken leg after being struck by the vehicle.
The man was conscious after the collision, police said.
He was transported to San Francisco General Hospital in critical condition, according to police.
Police said the driver of the vehicle involved in the collision initially left the scene but stopped and contacted police.
Police said the collision is still under investigation.
