CBS and ESPN are reporting Pablo Sandoval has agreed to a five-year contract worth near $100 million with the Boston Red Sox.
It appears that Panda Watch is coming to an end.
The Boston Red Sox have a deal in place with Pablo Sandoval, according to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports.
Despite reports, Giants assistant general manager Bobby Evans made it clear on KNBR 680-AM Monday morning that a deal has not been finalized:
“Just before I got on the line with you, I was back and forth with his agent, and he’s vehemently denying the report. He says that I’ll be the first to know whatever Pablo decides to do.”
Evans went on to say that Sandoval would have a decision Monday and he’d be the first to know.
Boston came out aggressive with an initial five-year, $95 million contract offer to Sandoval. That number appears to have climbed closer to $100 million now.
The Giants still have yet to submit a final offer to Sandoval.
The Red Sox have reportedly brought shortstop Hanley Ramirez into the fold for five years and $90 million. This could only encourage Sandoval to move into the Boston lineup.
If Boston winds up signing Sandoval, the Giants would receive a compensatory draft pick from the Red Sox that can be used after the first round of next year’s draft.
